On leaving the banking industry during the credit crunch, owner Tessa decided to combine her business knowledge, expertise and creative background into Goldstraws, setting up the business with her family in 2008.
While setting up the business, Tessa was investigating her family history and came across two of her ancestors Joel and Hannah who ran a shop. In their memory of generating 'something out of nothing’ , Goldstraws was born, with the first shop located in a lovely old building on the High Street in Warwick.
In November 2011, Goldstraws moved to new premises at 26B Market Place, Warwick (near the Rose & Crown Pub). The new shop encompasses all the three components of the old business into one area: toys & retro games, fair-trade gifts and locally produced crafts and paintings.
As part of our move, we have increased our range of traditional wooden toys, rag dolls and pocket money items and expanded our collection of “retro” toys which are sure to bring back memories. Increasingly, the majority of our gifts are fair-trade or handmade and include bags, accessories, jewellery, stationery and wooden items.
We are continuing to support local crafters in Warwickshire and neighbouring counties by stocking their goods. These include candles, textile goods, jewellery and many other unusual items. We also sell a comprehensive range of handmade cards. We have recently taken on two new local jewellers - Zazu Jewellery produce beautiful heart stone pendants and delicate crystal pieces & Ruth Mary with her one off vintage jewellery pieces from recycled antique jewellery, fabrics and lace.
Goldstraws Artists' Group
The Goldstraws Group is a selection of local artists and crafters of various styles, who are at a similar stage in their creative careers. Some are established artists, others are at the early stages of their artistic journey or have been painting for many years. All are looking for the opportunity to display/sell their works to a wider audience and develop their artistic ability further. The majority live and work in Warwick and are inspired by the local area.
Many of our current Goldstraws Artists have also been developing new pieces, so come and have a look at our ‘new look’ shop.
We are open Mondays to Saturdays, 10.00am to 5.15pm, Bank Holidays 11.00am to 3.00pm, Sundays by Appointment only.
